PAINTING
Stephen Lawlor’s paintings are remixes of historical and classical paintings, reworking familiar imagery through a contemporary lens. Working primarily in acrylic,, they are works of remarkable density and depth, layered with references to landscape, nature, the human figure and art history. In the process of making, these sources can become deliberately blurred and uncertain, allowing recognisable forms to shift between memory, imagination and abstraction.
